Dame Sarah Connolly and Il Gardellino

Dame Sarah Connolly: she is a living legend. In 2017 she was knighted for her many services (hence Dame). In December 2023 she received the prestigious award The King’s Medal of Music from the hands of King Charles. ‘The Committee agreed that Dame Sarah is an exceptional artist, as well as an advocate for greater support for the arts and a role model for many across the music sector’. We honour Dame Sarah with a mini-series about her.  Since Il Gardellino’s dazzling performance in last season’s Baroque Vocal series, this ensemble has been definitively considered one of the world-famous baroque ensembles.

Well-known arias from Handel’s operas

Born in Germany (in 1685, just like J.S. Bach), but revered in England (buried in Westminster Abbey: Georg Friedrich Händel, or in English: George Frideric Handel. He is one of the Big Three of the Baroque (with J.S. Bach and Vivaldi). Handel composed many beautiful and unforgettable works, including several beautiful operas. Dame Sarah has shone in these operas in recent seasons and today she sings, among other things, ‘Va tacito’ (from Giulio Cesare), ‘Scherza infida’ (from Ariodante) and ‘Lascia ch’io pianga’ (from Rinaldo). The concert has been specially composed for and by Barok Vocaal and can therefore only be heard and seen once in the world.
